You’ve got your Direction. You’ve got your Anchors and your Rules. And you know how to take tiny steps up any mountain. That’s a whole toolkit.
But here’s the catch. You can take a hundred tiny steps in the wrong direction and still end up completely lost. Action isn’t enough by itself. You need a way to make today’s step make tomorrow’s step smarter.
Because here’s what most people do instead. They feel something, they react, something happens — and they never stop to learn from it. They just keep reacting. I call that Drift. A little boat with nobody steering, floating wherever the water pushes. You’re moving, certainly. You’ve no idea where you’ll end up.
So how do you stop drifting? You use a Loop.
Before you do anything, check in — like a pilot glancing at the dashboard before takeoff. What’s going on outside you? And inside? Is your Capacity Rhythm low? Does this feel safe, or is your Trust part uneasy? Don’t judge any of it. Just read it honestly, right now. Most people skip this and guess how they feel instead of actually checking.
You take the foggy feeling and put it into clear words. Not I’m upset, but my Autonomy part is fighting my Industry part, because I’ve been at this too long and I need a break. Now you know what’s going on.
Now you move, but on purpose. You pick your Next True Step — and before you start, you set things up so the right Resident can lead. If it’s time to work, that’s Industry, not your panicking Trust part.
Everybody forgets this one, and it’s where the learning actually lives. After your step you pause and ask: what happened? What did that step really do? No judging. Just looking.
Then you change something because of what you saw — a belief, an expectation, a plan. This is a separate stage for a reason. If nothing actually changes, you only reviewed. You didn’t update, and the next loop will come out exactly like this one.
And last, you point yourself again. You hold the step up against your Direction and re-aim. This is the stage people drop, and dropping it is precisely what keeps you going round without ever gaining height.
Round again
Sense, Interpret, Act, Reflect, Update, Orient. Sense, Interpret, Act, Reflect, Update, Orient.
Here’s the magic of going in circles. Every loop makes you a little sharper. Your steps start to match your Direction better — and your Direction gets clearer because of your steps. They feed each other. Every attempt teaches you something, so the next one is better.
And this is the best part: when a tiny step doesn’t work, it isn’t a failure. It’s information. You take the mistake, you learn from it when you Reflect and Update, and you use it to pick a better next step. Nothing is wasted.
There’s a word for this self-improving way of living: Coherence. It doesn’t mean you’re certain about everything. It doesn’t mean life is perfectly steady. It means your actions and your Direction keep teaching each other, so you keep getting wiser as you go.
So stop drifting. Start looping. Sense, Interpret, Act, Reflect, Update, Orient — round and round, a little sharper every time.
